Obituary of Kevin A Krueger
Kevin Krueger August 1, 1962 to August 6, 2016.
Father, Husband, Brother, Uncle, Scoutmaster, Teacher, Elder, Comedian, Photographer, Cook, Runner and Friend. Kevin touched the lives of so many in his time with us.
He leaves his family with fantastic memories and a deep yearning for more time with him- children Joelle and Collin, Sharon- his wife of 21 years, father Arnold Krueger, brother Todd Krueger, sister Corynn Shaw, her husband Eric and their daughter Kayla. In-laws Dawn Lorenzo, Joseph and Kathleen Lorenzo, and cousins on both sides round up the family relations, but include the church family, the scout family and the family of friends.
Kevin loved being in the thick of things and in motion. An avid runner he found joy on the road and great gratification in competition, especially as he always came in the top quarter for his age group. Kevin enjoyed competition, period. Golf, tennis, badminton, curling, ping pong, board games, trivia, shoe-fling, wearwolf, kick-ball- if it can be played, he'd want in on the game.
And he got in the game in his varied careers: a journalist (Wayne County), a banker (Chase), high school math teacher (Aquinas, Fairport High), stay at home dad (Krueger Central), and professor (MCC, Roberts Wesleyan). He enjoyed each one, but his favorites were the most recent-being an awesome stay at home dad and spreading the gospel of statistics. His students would regularly tell him how much they enjoyed his class and how he made math understandable. His daughter, not a huge math fan, agrees.
Kevin was a man of great faith- and put that faith in action in everything he did. He taught Sunday School at every age (3 year olds through high school), was a confirmation mentor, an ordained Elder, and youth group leader. Leading Perinton Presbyterian Youth bike trips allowed him to combine all his favorites: exercise, faith, teaching. He held the century rides (100 mile ride home in one day at the end of the trip instead of riding home in a car) as some of his favorite days (especially the really fast ones).
Boy scouts offered another area where he could combine his favorites. He and Collin jumped into scouts with two feet- with Kevin as Den Leader, Outdoor Coordinator, Assistant Scout Master, and most recently Scoutmaster. As a kid who barely camped, he surely embraced it as he grew in scouts with Collin- attending multiple wilderness training exercises including cold weather camping (in the snow for goodness sake!), and earning the honor of Wood Badge. Two weeks ago, he became a Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow, the Scouting National Honor Society.
Kevin led a full, if short, life, and brought so many of us joy and laughter.
Please join us for a service to celebrate Kevin and share your favorite memories on Saturday, August 13th 2016, 11:00am at Perinton Presbyterian Church, 6511 Pittsford-Palmyra Road, Fairport NY 14450.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Seneca Waterways Council, Boy Scouts of America Campership Fund in Kevin's name (please add his name to memo line). This fund helps send underprivileged scouts to camp, expanding horizons and spreading fun and scout values. Donations can be sent to 2320 Brighton-Henrietta Town Line Road, Rochester NY 14623.
