Daryl was my pastor growing up in West Valley. He was a great family friend. He was a great spiritual example for me and contributed greatly to my faith. He got us youth involved in activities outside of WV like camp and Conference Youth. He will be missed by so many people. I will never forget his birthday as he always made sure to let us know. He always had some funny comment that made all of us smile. I will always remember his smirk and the way he stood watching with his hands in his pockets jingling his coins. I always loved how he would blush if teased - especially about Rachel. He was loved and will be missed.

Dear Rachel, Ethan, Derek & Becky, and Elizabeth,
I've known Daryl for as long as I have been in the ministry. He was just always here. We were on the Board of Ordained Ministry together. He sold a ton of your candy bars to us, we have the waistlines to prove it!! He always made us laugh, but he also just cared. Since our kids are all pretty near in age, we would always talk children, family, pastor stuff.
When we felt God was leading us to ask Daryl to go to Penfield UMC, I was so happy because I knew how desperately they needed to be cared for. I am so grateful for the love and care he brought, and you as well Rachel, to this congregation, to each congregation.
I am so very sorry for your loss, but I am so very glad to have had Daryl be a part of my life and ministry. I feel blessed and honored to have worked alongside him.
One thing was for sure- he loved you all more than anyone else, you were always the first and foremost love of his life, after God of course.
The journey will be hard, but I pray that God will continue to hold you close and you will feel that love in so many ways.
Cathy

My heart breaks for Rachel and family at the loss of Daryl. His quiet faithfulness, sense of humor and integrity in all things as well as his love for his family are sadly, rare these days but were evident in Daryl every day! May the Lord comfort you all at this sad time with the knowledge that he is with Our Lord and Savior until you are all reunited in heaven.

I've only known Daryl for a brief time and feel blessed to have been a part of the clergy grp that met at Perkins/Bill Gray's. I always felt welcomed and listened to when Daryl was there. Enjoyed his sense of humor and the twinkle in his eye when he was pulling your leg. He loved the Lord, the UMC and his family! Thanks be to God for him and for his life as well as our very own. May God's peace surround all who feel this parting, believing that you will be together again.

Dear Rachel, Liz, Derek and Ethan,
As you know better than any others, your spouse/dad was a VERY special guy. The kind of fellow who loved everyone and was loved by all. I will continue to pray for you all, not only for courage to face the services that lie ahead this week, but beyond as you adjust to a physical life without Daryl. Fortunately, Daryl will always be with you in spirit and is no doubt your biggest cheerleader and supporter in that sense. I do look forward to seeing you all again this weekend, but am so sorry that it is under these circumstances.
God bless you, Ray Noell

As a new lay member of BoOM I was drawn to Daryl the first time I met him. He was such a fun guy and had great stories to share about some of the pranks he pulled on people. I will miss seeing him at conference and district events.
He touched so many lives.

My fondest memories come from the years we served on the Conference Board of Ordained. Daryl had a wonderful sense of humor. He will be remembered by many for providing (for a slight fee, of course) many candy delights which benefited one of his children's school projects. I will remember him for his wit and quiet sense of humor... but he will be remembered! To God be the glory!

My fondest memories come from our time serving together on the Board of Ordained Ministry. He had a dry sense of humor that always brought a smile and a warm feeling to my heart; and he never failed to have a box of candy bars to sell for one of his children's projects.

I recall playing golf with Daryl and Jim Taft up near Barker. We had a wonderful, sunny day and the golf was good. Afterwards, we met with Rachel at the ice cream stand, was it Anderson's? That is a very good memory.

First, please accept my deepest condolences at this time. I know that both the family and the church family have sustained a great loss. My love and prayers are with you all.
One of my earliest memories of Daryl go back to 1979 when I became his district superintendent and had the privilege of getting to know him in his role as pastor at Little Valley and Napoli. In my several meetings with him in those churches I came to appreciate his careful and faithful ministry. He was a single man living in a large parsonage in Little Valley. His companion at that time was a little dog. I love to recall that Daryl had placed a sign in the lawn of the parsonage that read, "Beware of Dog. He may be small but he knows kung-foo."
Later I knew him as a pastoral colleague in the Batavia district where he had leadership positions and became a beloved longer term pastor at Barker. I will cherish his memory and always appreciate his sense of humor and his faithful ministry.

I shall miss Daryl's quiet but powerful sense of humor. He was a man of deep faith who never needed to be in the attention lime-light. It would be fun to imagine the world if more folks were like Daryl! Life would be so full of wonderful surprises and joy.
God bless you for sharing him with us.
