I first met Ray when he was a Rochester Police Officer, manning the corner at Main and Clinton! I think that was in the late seventies. I didn't see him for several years after that until 1983 when my Grandma died and the service was at Mattle's Funeral Home on Culver Rd. I was honored to find Ray upon his motorcycle at the head of my Grandma's procession. I saw him once or twice after that, briefly, at other funerals, but in November of 1996 my Grandpa died. Again, the services were at Mattle's. And, sure enough......there was Ray, upon his trusty steed again, leading my Grandpa's procession. I thought Ray was a really cool guy! He was friendly, ALWAYS happy, kind, and of course humorous. Witty, Irish humor! But I will remember Ray in his putts, boots, and jacket sitting upon his motorcycle, smiling and saluting a wave as he drives off. May God Bless you all and please know that Ray is in my prayers and in my heart. I am sure he is leading some processional up in Heaven!!

Dear Helene and Family,
I am so deeply saddened to hear of Ray's passing. I had full intentions of coming to pay my respects but my schedule will not allow it. I wanted you to know that my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time and how many wonderful memories I have of time spent with all of you over the many escort parties at your home. I hope it helps to know that the thoughts and prayers of family and friends are with you at this time. Love, Lisa

There will be an obvious void in the front pew at the 7:30 Sunday Masses. Ray 'fought the good fight' along with a most loving and supportive wife. Helene, I believe you are the most compassionate, gentle person I know.
You have been and will continue to be held in my heart and remembered in my prayers.
Love to you at this difficult time,
JoAnne (Vince too!)

Red will be missed. Memories of when he had a gas station downtown and when he raced a 1954 Dodge at Spencer Speedway with "Red Ram" written on the side. And lots of memories throughout the years, on the job and off!
Now it is time to take it easy Red, luv ya buddy.

To the Cleary Family,
I am sorry about the lost of Ray. It is another Legacy gone from the Rochester Police Dept. Everyone in the City of Rochester knew and loved "Red" Cleary. I enjoyed working the six years with Goodman 266. Ray was often by Back Up and visa versa. They just don't make them like Ray anymore. I belive GOD broke the mold after he was born. No more suffering,Rest in Peace Ray!

My thoughts of working with Ray from his RPD days were wonderful! He was the RGH ED's evening cop- and he always supported my staff. I also had the privilege of caring for him and his family when he required emergency care. He was just the best! One life can touch many- Ray touched many. God Bless you Ray. My sympathy to your family.

I found so early on in my RPD career and assigned to the Atlantic Section 3rd pltn., that I was most blessed and fortunate to work not only in the adjoining section where Ray worked but to be 265 car while Ray was 266 car. He became an informal mentor that i'll never forget owe him much.
Thank you for everything Ray..

Ray was a great guy. My memories of him go back about 30 years, but I got to know him 13 years ago when I bought a motorcycle from him (Tombstone). He was always there to help with problems and lend a hand. He was how I remembered cops when I was a kid, firm but fair,no attitude but commanding respect. I'll always remember and miss him.

When I first came on the job as a Police Officer and worked 3rd platoon I met Ray. Now I never saw a guy wearing a handlebar mustache like Ray. He always looked and acted professional. I respected him, we grew to be good friends and Helene you know some of the things Ray and I did to each other over the years even after I retired, and YOU were involved also. I learned a lot from Ray while on the job and looked up to him. I will miss him but I always know that he will be here for all of us in spirit. God Bless

Officer Ray Cleary was well known to myself and friends as teens growing-up on the east side. He had an enormous impact on me that I didn't even realize until I became an adult. Although he is physically gone, his ideals live on not only through his family but through mine as well. Thank you Officer Cleary. May God Bless you.
