Hervey Gauvin was a true hero in any sense of the word. He was a hero to his family, immediate and extended, and he was a hero to his nation. As I get on in years and can get a better understanding of history, I can now appreciate the countless tens of thousands of lives, American and Japanese, that Uncle Hervey and his fellows saved during WWII. He was a steadfastly quiet man, which only stood in testament to his loyalty. I will always remember Uncle Hervey as a true American hero.

Dear Helen, Sharon and family:
It was with sadness I read of the passing of Hervey. I have always admired Helen and Hervey's willingness to make the change in their lives to relocate closer to Sharon so many years ago, to begin to build another life for themselves. I clearly remember how they volunteered immediately upon moving to Penfield to help at St. Joseph's, for any needs that developed. What a blessing they received in return for relocating, watching up close their grandchildren growing into independent and successful young adults. We join you in celebrating Hervey's life.
