The sudden passing of John has devastated the family. I will remember John as a very sweet man with a laugh and smile for everyone. He was such a devoted husband to my sister, Andrea and an amazing father to Kimberly. It is truly a loss to everyone and it will be felt for years to come.

Very sad… I had just seen John at the IHS reunion in September. I had a very nice conversation with John and Dave Johnston, his friend and bandmate (lead guitarist.) John and I lived in the same neighborhood growing up in Irondequoit (Brookview Dr) and went to middle school together. John loved riding his bike and helping others to ride/exercise. It really showed. I also ride and felt a kindred spirit with him. Andrea and Kimberly, I’m so sorry for your loss. Doug D’Aprix

Doug, I greatly appreciate your comment. Since I didn’t know John in those early years it is heartwarming to hear memories of him from his friends from long ago. I am glad he attended the reunion so at least you could see and talk with him. We are truly devastated but the support of friends has been helpful.

Andrea, I am shocked and truly saddened to hear of John's passing. I knew John from his days at the Penfield Racquet Club where we spun together and then to the Y where John became one of the best spin instructors and trainers they had. His smile, sense of humor, and the conversations we've had over the years will truly be missed. I offer my deepest condolences to you and your family Andrea. Tom Doehler

Tom, thank you for posting. I love reading these remembrances of John and the many friends he had that I didn’t even know he had. He tried to be the best at everything he did and especially his spinning class. He would love to hear you thought he was the best. John was a great listener as well. Terrible loss for us and everyone who knew him.

Oh no!!! I just happened to see John's face and was shocked! I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I knew John through the Eastside YMCA and had him as a trainer at one point. He was always so gracious and positive - always upbeat and smiling! What a great coach and great person. Please accept my sincere condolences. He will be missed!

John will be greatly missed by the Y family. It has been years since I’ve seen John. I loved his class and his energy. He was always willing to give advice to a fellow group ex instructor. The news of his passing really shook me because we never know when the Lord will call us home. Thank you John and family for the love and beauty you brought to the world. God Bless.

John was my first cousin on my father’s side. His father my Uncle Horace was my father’s youngest brother. Even though he & Susan grew up in New York and we were in Tennessee it was so much fun to visit. John was the kindest person. He had an old soul I always said. Going to miss him so much. Prayers of comfort and peace to Andrea, Kimberly, Susan and Scott.

John worked and played basketball with my husband, Dick Gates. Dick called him “John not so bad”. He was a wonderful guy and our family loved having him at our house. So sad this happened to him and your family.

My husband Mike and I took several cycle classes with John. His classes were well planned, challenging and fun. His directions were excellent. He was genteel, friendly and encouraging. I’ll always remember the class that ended with a video of a plane taking off. It was our job to pedal hard and fast enough to get that plane in the air. We worked as a team and succeeded.. Cycle classes on the other side are about to be jacked up a notch. Good bye John, we will think of you often when we ride a bike or in a plane. Mike and Lory Malinowski
