Obituary of Arthur J. Heald
Arthur J. Heald Age 83 of Penfield, New York, passed away at Rochester General Hospital on August 30, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. Art was born May 2, 1941, in Troy, NY to the late Kenneth and Abbie (Little) Heald. Art married his sweetheart, Diane Fierro.
In his early years, Art spent summers working with family on the Sliter Dairy Farm in Troy, NY. He attended Delhi College and was a member of the Kappa Sigma Epsilon Fraternity. He served two years in the Army where he volunteered to go anywhere in the world and was able to see both Fort Dix, NJ and Fort Monmouth, NJ. Art went to Kent State University on the GI Bill where he demonstrated his patriotism as a member of the ‘Back The Troops’ campus veteran’s organization.
After graduating from Kent State, he started his lifelong career in Human Resources consulting which took him to Grand Rapids, Michigan before eventually settling in Penfield, NY, to raise his two sons.
Art had many interests, especially history, politics, and sports. He was a passionate golfer, his playing time limited only by the infamous Rochester weather, though he often played in spite of it. Most of the time you would find Art playing at Penfield Country Club or recounting each stroke from his play, at St. Andrew’s and Carnoustie. In addition to being his sons’ biggest fan, he coached their recreational soccer (with almost no foreknowledge of the sport) and basketball teams. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a doting grandfather.
Art is survived by his wife of 60 years, Diane; his sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Dina, Gary and Jackie; his granddaughter, Sadie; his sister, Linda Allen and her late husband, Tom; his sister-in-law, Donna Clark, wife of his late brother, Stuart; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Marcella Fierro, Russell and Fran Fierro along with a large extended family and the Penfield Country Club Family.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 11:30 AM at St. Joseph’s Church, 43 Gebhardt Road in Penfield, with military honors and burial at Oakwood Cemetery, 1975 Baird Road and a reception at Penfield Country Club, 1784 Jackson Road, Penfield, immediately following.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 13, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Jennings, Nulton, and Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Road in Penfield.
