Obituary of Dylan T. Jennings

Dylan Thomas Jennings, 44, of Fairport, NY, passed away suddenly on Wednesday September 20, 2023.

Dylan is survived by his parents, Thomas and Betty Jennings nee Palmer, brother, Sean Jennings, sister Jennifer (Tony) Ferrigan, brother, Ryan Jennings, nephew, Finn Ferrigan and niece, Allison “Allie” Ferrigan, many aunts, uncles, and cousins.  He is preceded in death by grandparents, Patrick and Della Jennings, John and Helene Palmer, aunt, Peggy Palmer, uncle, James Jennings, and cousins, Theresa and Timothy Jennings.

Dylan was born in Rochester, NY on July 4, 1979, and grew up in Fairport.  He attended Catholic School at St. Joseph's School in Penfield, NY, graduated from Fairport High School in 1997 where he ran on the track team. After attending SUNY University at Buffalo for several years, he transferred to SUNY New Paltz where he graduated in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in biology.  He wanted to work in a lab setting, so he returned to school and attained an associate degree in medical technology and a lab certification from Broome Community College.  He worked in a hospital lab setting in Syracuse, NY, for several years before returning home to the Rochester area.  He worked at Highland Hospital as a clinical laboratory technologist until his untimely death.

Dylan loved his cats, the great outdoors, gardening (especially super-hot peppers,) and running. He had many friends, both lifelong and those he collected along the way, either through backgammon gaming groups, getting involved with local trail and ultrarunning groups, or simply by touching the lives of those around him day to day.  He enjoyed all his friends and made the effort to spend time with them either disc golfing, hiking, camping and backpacking, even biking and kayaking.  He made the effort to travel to see loved ones far and wide, whether it was in nearby Syracuse, family in Michigan, friends in Minnesota, or as far away as Slovenia and the Netherlands.

Family has always been a priority for Dylan. He has been particularly close with his younger brother, Ryan, his entire life, including him in his circle of friends and many times, a roommate.  Dylan’s laughter, happy attitude, and love for telling jokes will be sorely missed.

A graveside service will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, 1332 Turk Hill Road (please park at the Perinton Rec Center and walk to the cemetery) on October 20, 2023, at 12:30 pm.   A lunch will follow afterwards at the Perinton Recreation Center, 1350 Turk Hill Road, Fairport from 1-4 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Road, Fairport, NY 14450 or gifts cana be made to the SUNY Broome Foundation in memory of Dylan.  The funds will be used to support students in the Clinical Laboratory Technology program.  Visit this website.
