Sally Randall

Obituary of Sally E. Randall

Penfield, NY- Sally Eleanor Chapman Randall passed peacefully on January 21, 2023, at the age of 81. Sally is survived by her husband of 57 years, Kenneth Bruce Randall, son Todd, daughter, Carrie and granddaughters Janie and Emerson. Sally grew up in Mexico, NY with her parents ,Ward and Elsie, and her sister ,Erma Reese.

While at SUNY Geneseo, she was a member of the Arethusa House Sorority. Sally studied under Dr. Walter Harding, renown Thoreau scholar, instilling her lifelong interest in the Transcendentalist Movement.  Upon graduation, Sally became an English teacher;  a career that spanned over fifty years, all in the Penfield Central School District. Sally was known as an approachable, dedicated, knowledgeable and humorous teacher and colleague.

Sally enjoyed reading and discussing literature with her dear friends in the Round Table Book Club, playing Euchre with her card group, day trips shopping, touring authors’ homes, coordinating friend and retiree functions, rooting for Josh Allen and the Bills to make the playoffs and relaxing on her back patio oasis.

Sally will be remembered for her generous nature and her indomitable spirit. Sally found joy in the simple things in life: a good book, a cup of hot tea, the companionship of friends, an old movie.

To her friends, Sally was a treasure, perhaps because she was guided by this quote from Thoreau: “The most I can do for my friend is simply be his friend.” Sally was a true friend. She enriched the lives of those she knew with her thoughtfulness, kindness, and compassion.

For those wishing, donations may be made to Louisa May Alcott's Orchard House at (LouisaMayAlcott.org) or The Thoreau Society at (thoreausociety.org) in Sally's memory.
