Edna Bouchal was my art teacher in 7th and 8th grade back in Fair Lawn, NJ back around 1961-62. She was a fantastic person, and I'll never forget her! My condolences to the family.

I always loved to see Edna on South Terrace walking her beloved dog Toby. Her radiant smile when she saw me, her warm voice, her witty laugh. She was Chautauqua, the place that never leaves you. She never will.

Sincere condolences on the passing of an amazing lady. I spoke with her many times
near the amp, PO or docks.
We both loved Chautauqua, our dogs and our boats, located at adjacent slips.
She was always witty and happy in public. Best wishes to the family.
Gena Bedrosian, now of Avon, Co and Naples, FL.

Loved having Edna pop into the Gallery and share her insights on all of the artist’s work. So glad we were able to do a little showing of her wonderful sketches one year too! She was a vibrant woman who never stopped creating and Chautauqua will miss her...

Our family lived on South Terrace across from Edna and her brood for more than 20 years. She and I had a special relationship which mainly involved insulting each other and keeping score of who had the best retort. My grandchildren adored her - loved her deeply. One recently wrote that she went out on a boat after learning of Edna's death and saw a shooting star. Of course that was Edna saying goodbye to Rachel. South Terrace was (is) one of the most vibrant in Chautauqua - full of interesting, caring, loving smart and interesting people. Edna was our soul. Bob McClure

Edna sketched a treasured picture of my husband that showed his intent listening to the lecture. She was such constant at the morning lectures. Here presence will be missed.

So very sorry to hear this news. Edna was a joyful, spirited Chautauquan, ever engaging and a pleasure to have known. I have missed seeing her the last couple of seasons. May she rest peacefully now. Prayers and strength to her family and friends.

Aunt Edna was an incredible life force! Full of verve and imagination, energy and fun. Yes, and funny! She made me grin even when I was tired or sad. I loved being around her with her irresistible energy. She will be missed but always remembered.

We were amused, delighted, entertained, affected, moved to tears, occasionally irritated, and always inspired by our good friend Edna Bouchal. The stories she told of her parents, brother Walter, college years, teaching career, Chatauqua Institution, and early years of marriage to Alex will remain etched in our memories. Her love of family, and concern for her loved ones, was apparent each and every day. She was of her generation, yet so much more. She was beloved by so many who knew her. We acknowledge her and say: "Zekher Tzadik Livrakha" - May the memory of the righteous be a blessing.

The Bouchals lived across the street from us -- each family in a corner, Tudor house -- in Westfield, NJ. Almost immediately Edna and our mother, Lois, became fast friends, each bringing immeasurable talent and creativity to whatever project was at hand in either household. They were one another's muse, critic and collaborator (or, perhaps, co-conspirator). In short, they were a gift to one another and as others have noted, Edna's enthusiasm and humor filled many mornings and afternoons on Shadowlawn Drive. I can still hear Edna's hearty laugh. A big loss but what a big and generous life she led. My deepest condolences.

What an incredible person Edna was. I met Mrs. Bouchal when I was 9 years old. The Bouchal family lived next door to our family at Chautauqua on Simpson. She was the boss and even Bob did what she told him. (which is amazing because Bob was a challenging son!) She and Al were great friends of my parents. They welcomed us to Chautauqua and even after both of our families moved to other homes we stayed connected.
Throughout my life I have always gone to Chautauqua every summer and every summer I saw Edna either at the Art Quad, the Amp or walking her dog. She was a very kind, thoughtful and funny person. I will miss Edna but will see her in my minds eye every time I go up the hill to the Amp.
I feel so fortunate to have known and loved Edna.
My thoughts, prayers and condolences to Bob, Annie and the Bouchal grand, and great grand children. My family and I look forward to celebrating Edna's life next summer at the lake.
