Obituary of David Matthew Kolupski

David M. Kolupski of Penfield passed peacefully on September 7, 2020 at age 66 after a 23 month battle with cancer. Dave will be forever missed by his wife/high school sweetheart, Sandy; beloved children, Megan & Bryn Yoshida, Andrew Kolupski & fiancee Lynn Wallenhorst; and the loves of his life-grandkids Emily and Caleb Yoshida. Also survived by siblings Judi & Chuck Chodak, Ken & Irene Kolupski, Lori & Mark DiAntonio; numerous "favorite" nieces and nephews and great nieces; in-laws, Henry and Kris Gaebel and Doreen LaDonna. Along with his cousins, Dave also considered his numerous friends his family. Predeceased by parents Matt and Emily Kolupski and in-laws, Dick and Doris LaDonna; grandparents and many aunts and uncles. Dave graduated from St. Stanislaus School, Bishop Kearney High School and RIT. After graduating from RIT in 1976, Dave managed Woodridge Apartments and Landing Heights Apartments. He also maintained an office building on Winton Road North and was part of the renovation of the Blossom Business Center. Dave could build, fix, paint or repair almost anything Dave and Sandy were parishioners at St. Joseph's Church for 36 years. Dave's faith ran deep - and he truly lived his Christian values. He volunteered on the parish Building & Grounds Committee, was an R&R Retreat Team member for years and was the Co-Chair of the St. Joseph's School Playground Committee, raising funds for and installing a new playground in the early 1990's. Dave was a coach for Penfield Girls' Softball when Megan played in the league, was a coach for Penfield Little League when Andrew played, and was actively involved in parent boards & fundraising at St. Joseph's School, Our Lady of Mercy and McQuaid Jesuit while Megan & Andrew attended each school. Dave was a hands-on volunteer with residents at Shepherd Home in Penfield for years. He was always generous with his time and talents. Dave was probably the best FRIEND anyone could ever have! If you were in his life - or in Megan's or Andrew's life - he would AND DID do anything for you. Whatever needed fixing or repairing - Dave was your guy. He'd happily join you to work on whatever project needed attention. Selfless is a very accurate description of Dave - he was a kind man. Dave's trouble-making instigation was legendary, as was his quick wit. If there was fun trouble to be created, Dave was behind it! Good natured and easy-going describe him. With a passion for restoring vintage Camaros, Dave had a knowledge base that was remarkable. If he didn't already know how to replace or repair a part of the car, he'd learn until he could do it himself. Family - and his friends who he considered family - were always Dave's highest priority. He made time for everyone! He loved family gatherings and socializing with friends. A friend commented that Dave always made people laugh and always made them feel special. What a beautiful legacy! Sandy, Megan and Andrew would like to thank the amazing medical teams at Wilmot Cancer Center who supported Dave. Special thanks to Dr. Louis Constine, Dr. Adrienne Victor, Nurse Jeff Walent and Nurse Practitioner Scott Cody – each of you has been a special blessing to us during this most-difficult journey. We appreciate your knowledge, your constant support and your availability to us. We also are forever indebted to the excellent Intensive Care Unit team at Strong Memorial Hospital #8-1600 who treated Dave and us with excellence and compassion. Dave's Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday September 12, 2020 11AM at St. Joseph's Church, 43 Gebhardt Road, Penfield.
