Obituary of Philip D. Schaefer

The Rev. Philip David Schaefer died July 25, 2020. Love, friendship and compassion were principles in his life, as a husband, father, Episcopal priest and friend of many. Predeceased by parents Philip W. and Helen, brother Martin, sister Laurie Faulkner, daughter-in-law Laurie. Survived by wife Elsa, sons Philip C., Andrew (Rebecca), Stephen, and daughter Sarah Eberst (JV); 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, as well as brother-in-law John Faulkner and life long friend Tom Hays. He was born in Toledo, OH, graduated from Denison University in Granville, OH, and Berkeley Divinity School in New Haven, CT. Ordained an Episcopal priest in 1961, Philip served the church and people at St. James, Painesville OH, All Saints, Aliquippa PA, St. Luke, Georgetown PA, Zion, Avon NY, and the Church of the Incarnation, Penfield NY. He was chaplain at the Episcopal Church Home and with Genesee Hospice Care. Philip enjoyed membership in the Penfield and Fairport Lions Clubs, working with Metro Justice of Rochester and the Penfield Democratic Committee and hiking with the Wednesday Hikers. There will be a committal of ashes in the Garden of Resurrection at Church of the Incarnation, Penfield, with family.
