I had the privilege of working with Nathaniel at the NYSDOT for several years. He was an exceptionally bright bridge designer. He often had a smile on his face and cheerfully accepted requests to share knowledge/help coworkers no matter how busy he was. Nathaniel will be greatly missed.

I worked with Nathaniel at NYSDOT. My first time meeting him, Nathaniel asked me a question about some nuanced issue and my giving him the answer was simply not going to do. Nathaniel asked several follow-up questions, showing that he deeply wanted to understand the "why and the how". His natural curiosity, sharp mind, and great personality made a deep impression on me that day. He was a pleasure to know and to work with and his loss is deeply felt.
His memory will be for me an inspiration and I hope it will be a blessing for all who had the pleasure of knowing him. My sincerest condolences.

Please know that we are sending our most heartfelt prayers for Nathaniel's repose and for your family's abundant strength and unity to endure.
With our profoundest sympathy,
Mike, Ann and Nate Gauer

I knew Nathan from figure skating and, certainly, a more pleasant person is nowhere to be found.
Nathan was someone I was always glad to see and hearing his kind voice still resonates within me.
Soulful, genuine and caring, being with Nathan was always a pleasure. His calmness endured and I am sure all of these qualities hold him now.
As I feel for your profound loss, I am holding Nathan, and each of you, in my heart. With love, Helga

To Nate's family and friends,
I was a co-worker with Nate @ NYSDOT R4 Design office, and retired recently.
I read of his passing this morning.
As a project squad leader, I was privileged to have Nate work on some structures in my projects, and he not only did outstanding engineering & drafting work but was very pleasant to discuss things. Always a gentleman.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
Sincerely,
Dan Schwind
