Dave Croop. Son. Brother. Husband. Father. Grandfather. Uncle. Leader. Entrepreneur. Golfer. Animal Lover. Kubota Curator. Horse Whisperer. Dear Friend.
My connection with Dave & Marilyn started 20 years ago, when my horse, Simon, went to stay at their Horse Farm, Briar Hill. A one month temporary stay quickly turned into 20 years and growing. The impact the entire Croop Family has had on my life has been immeasurable; my heart is filled with so much love and gratitude for them. They changed my life.
I am blessed to have had the opportunity to work with and learn from Dave through the years; he taught me so much about horsemanship (and driving tractors!). In doing so, I learned many life lessons like how tone and actions make all the difference. And how humbleness, kindness, consistency and hard work are at the foundation of every success.
Years ago, our beloved Veterinarian, the late Dr. DePuy said to Dave “When I die, I want to come back as a horse and live at Briar Hill”. Doc DePuy saw an incredible human being in Dave Croop…and he saw his lifelong love of horses, starting with Dave’s first pony, Joe. Dave had a way of looking the horse in the eye to settle them. And in one word, “Hey”, he could capture their attention and teach them an important lesson. And in return, you could see Dave’s soul reflected in them.
To my dear friends in the Croop Family - we are all heartbroken over the loss of Dave. He was an incredible man who impacted the lives of thousands of people, including mine. I will think of him every day and work hard to live up to the remarkable legacy he leaves.

One fond memory, my first week of being employed, nobody introduced me to David. David, humble as he was personally installed my phone. Being polite as I am, I said thank you sir, thinking he was just part of the maintenance crew. Did not find out for weeks that he was the owner of Croop-Lafrance.

David was my first boss at Blue Criss 1974. He was way more than a boss. He was a mentor, an incredible friend & a cross between a big brother and a surrogate father. He kept me inline which was not always easy. He read me the riot act when justified and was always there to listen, give me advice and unjudgemental support. He was the best boss and best friend ever He also gave me the opportunity to advance my career. I will miss him terribly and will never ever forget what a wonderful person he was. My heart and prayers go out to Marilyn and his family. God bless!!

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Croop family as I had the privilege to work with Dave and Chris at The Air Force Research Laboratory in Rome NY for 5 years. Dave was such a nice, kind man with a good sense of humor!!! He was an even better boss as he really cared about his employees and always treated us with respect. Me and my coworkers will certainly miss Dave great smile and laugh as we will miss him but are extremely blessed to have known him and had him for a boss. I will never forget the belief he had in me to get the job done but also represent Croop La France at the AFRL site with pride.
Dave your will be missed but your work is done here on earth sir!!! THANK YOU
Dave and Patty Parker Jr.

Marilyn, I am so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. He was a great man who helped me throughout my career. As many will say, I started working for Dave right out of college. I learned so much from him not only about work, but about life. I will always remember the laughs we had with Charlie Calcagni, or the time we got busted skipping work to attend the LPGA, or the welts I got getting hit by his racquetball return shots. Many memories that have helped shape my life. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Rest In Peace Dave. Jerry Toscano

Dave Croop - set me straight early at BCBS when I burned up the toaster at Chestnut st .emptied the building with a fire alarm .. and forever nicknaming me " Sparky". More than once pulled me off the wall .kept the sharks at bay , and refocused me when the things went south in the Data Center , and THEN followed with a " thatta boy". Very few management was as standup - no BS - no office politics as Dave was … Sincere thoughts and prayers to the family
Thanks Dave

My Heart is deeply saddened. Dave and I worked together until he left the Company. We were not just workers we were friends. He always had a smile, was a jokester as well as a mentor. You always knew he was around by his laugh. We had our Christmas gatherings with our spouses each year and had a great time. Marilyn, I am so sorry. I know how much he loved you and the whole family. Our Prayers and love go out to you and the whole family. He will always be missed but will always be with us. Till we meet again Dave Rest In Peace.

When Dave was at BCBS, he hired me, in April, 1979. He was a great boss and a super raquetball player. He would always 'kick my butt'on the court, but when I'd get frustrated after a game he would say "Hey Beav, don't give up. One of these days you're gonna win"...then he'd smile and laugh, because he knew it would never happen.
I found a old picture of him and the BCBS softball team(before my time), with that typical smile.
My sincere condolences to Marilyn and the family.

We have had the honor of getting to know Dave since my brother, Todd, met and married his daughter Stephanie. His love for his family and friends was obvious and unquestionable!! While his passing is so difficult for his loved ones and friends I have no doubt that he will forever love, guide and nurture all of them until they are reunited one day.
