Obituary of Sarah W. Baumer

Sarah "Sally" (Williams) Baumer of Penfield, New York, passed away May 6, 2018 at age 88. Predeceased by her loving husband, Harold "Bud" Baumer in 2017. She is survived by her children, Linda (Rowland) Blake, Cheryl (Frank) Smith, Chris (Barb) Baumer and Eric (Lynda) Baumer; grandchildren, Sarah, Daniel, Devon, David, Eric, Brad, Brian, Kristen and Timmy; 7 great-grandchildren. Sally was born on June 28, 1929 in Ovid, New York and was blessed to grow up there with her two sisters, Berda and Gini. Her employment history included advertising and modeling for Sibleys, and working as a candy striper at local hospitals. In 1949 at a New Year's Eve party, Sally met the man of her dreams and lifelong partner. They would marry in 1951, build a house in Penfield in 1953, raise 4 children and enjoy living there for 63 years. When Linda and Cheryl were in high school, Sal was very involved with the Foreign Exchange Student Program. Years later, when the boys were in elementary school, she became known as the bird lady, often hosting their teachers and classmates who would walk down the street and observe the banding process right in her backyard. Sally loved to entertain. In the early years, there were couples dance parties at their home on Gebhardt; she enjoyed hosting bridge parties for her friends, always trying new recipes. By far, her favorite events were family dinners and get togethers…she loved to cook for a crowd! Bud routinely introduced her as "the best cook in Penfield", and it was true. While her most requested confection is "The Nana Cake", her culinary legacy lives on as her version of Chicken Parm is now on the menu at the Jewish Home! As an avid birder and nature lover, a collector of cut glass and seashells, and a music enthusiast, Sally was always learning something new. She enjoyed sharing her knowledge and experiences with her family, particularly the grandchildren. They too, loved sharing their latest bird or wildlife sighting, fish tales, band/chorus songs, and prized shells with their Nana. No prior calling. A memorial service for Sally will be held Saturday, May 12th at 2PM at the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, 1957 Five Mile Line Rd., Penfield. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, Sal would request that you take time to enjoy nature, feed the birds, bake a cake and cherish special moments with your family and friends.
