Obituary of Richard Alan Smith
Richard Alan "Dick" Smith of Penfield was born April 25, 1930 and died July 4, 2017 at age 87. He was predeceased by his father, Harry P. Smith; mother, Ina Alexander Smith; brother, Donald Smith. Dick is survived by his wife, Eleanor "Lorrie" (Wagner) Smith; daughters, Suzanne (Jonathan) Madigan, Sharon (Christian) Nairy and Pamela (Mark) Assogna; grandchildren, Shelby, Christian, Ryan, Cassidy, Ashley, Cole and Ellie.
Dick's father died in 1938 during the depression. Dick graduated from Proctor High School in Utica, NY in 1949 where he was very active in sports. He earned 5 varsity letters. He was offered a music scholarship to Fredonia State but decided on Purdue University and graduated in 1953. While at Purdue, he continued to be active in sports and music. Dick enlisted in the Army in 1953 and graduated from Officer's Candidate School in 1954. He started a career in construction equipment sales, where he won awards for top salesman and became a Sales Manager and President. He ended his career with Wesley Construction as VP of Tennis Court Construction/Sales. He will be remembered for his fun personality, love of swimming and diving, tennis with friends and hanging with family.
Friends may call Monday 4-7PM at Jennings, Nulton &Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Road, Penfield. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider contributions to the American Heart Association in Dick's memory.
