Obituary of Thermon Lee Printy
Thermon "Bob" Printy of Penfield passed away April 11, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth; sons, Wayne (Debbie and David; daughter, Katherine (Jack) DeGelder; grandchildren, Sean (Crystal), Brian (Crystal), Alex, Evan, Nicole, Grace, Travis and Shannon; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie; brother, Gary (Sally); nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Bob enlisted in the US Navy during post WWII from 1946 to 1948, stationed in the Mediterranean Sea serving on the USS Dayton, advancing to Seaman. It was during this time frame that Bob met the Pope (Pius XII). In addition, he lost a shipmate while on leave in Turkey at the start of the Cold War. He was later called back into the Korean War as an Aviation Store Keeper from 1950 – 1952. In between these years he studied at University of Rochester, joined the National Ski Patrol, and worked as National Sales Representative for Proctor & Gamble. In 1953, while working for P&G, he met his future wife, Elizabeth. He left P & G to go with Nationwide Insurance Co. as a Field Adjuster in Hamilton, NY where his first 2 children, Wayne and Kathy were born. Upon leaving Nationwide, Bob went into partnership of Salina Electronics in Syracuse, NY. The family moved to Camillus where his 3rd child, David was born and the children were raised. In 1972, Bob joined Singer Corporation as National Sales Manager in the Audio Visual Division, later transferring to government sales. He moved the family to Penfield, NY, outside of Rochester, where Elizabeth resides today. He ended his career as a successful Independent Manufacturer's Representative. He retired in his late seventies having traveled extensively around the United States.
As his children grew up in Camillus, Bob volunteered as a committee member with Boy Scout Troop 83 and participated in many of their activities. His son, Wayne, achieved the highest honor of Eagle Scout. Bob moved his family to Penfield, NY in 1973 and remained involved with Boy Scouts there with David.
Bob enjoyed his card games, his time with the American Legion and relaxing with friends and family. He loved camping and boating. He took many trips over the years by boat across Lake Ontario into the St. Lawrence River and provided many wonderful memories for his family. He eventually owned a cottage with his brother Gary, and first wife, Joyce (deceased) at Port Bay, NY. Bob had his final boat docking in Sodus Bay, NY. Gary and his current wife, Sally, live nearby in Fairport, NY.
Bob led an active life during his career and retirement. His activities with family and grandchildren meant the most to him. David and his 3 children, Nicole, Travis and Shannon reside in Penfield today. He took many trips over the years to visit Wayne & Debbie in Maine and Kathy, Jack and Grace in Michigan. Bob's oldest grandsons, Sean, married to Crystal, and Brian, engaged to Crystal, currently reside in Finger, TN and Virginia Beach, VA, respectively. Sean and Crystal gave Bob his first great grandchild, Mackenzie, in 2011. He will be missed and remembered by his family and friends for the love and memories he shared with them all. May he rest in peace.
Bob's Memorial Service will be held Saturday April 23rd at 11:30 AM at Penfield United Methodist Church, 1795 Baird Road in Penfield.
