Obituary of Joanne M. Ras

Joanne M. Ras, RN of Rochester passed away peacefully on Sunday September 26, 2010 at age 64, following a 10 month battle with pancreatic cancer. Joanne was predeceased by her dear parents, Mary and Jim Ras. Joanne will be lovingly remembered by her 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary (Ann Marie Bayer), William (Karen Wegman) and Thomas (Katherine Crandall); her nephews and nieces, Matthew (Christina), Shawn, Kayleigh, Brian and Katie Ras and a great-niece and nephew, Jordyn and Jayden Ras. Joanne was a graduate of Nazareth Academy and St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing (Syr.). She worked as a staff nurse and ultimately a nurse manager for RGH from 1967 until 1987. She then became office manager for Rochester Surgical Associates until her retirement in 2009. While at RGH and RSA, she made many friends and everyone knew her for her kind manner, generous heart and infectious laugh. She will be missed. The family wishes to thank her former colleagues at RGH and RSA, especially Dr. TK Oates for being like a brother to Joanne, his care and compassion were a blessing to all of us. Thank you also to Lifetime Care nurse Wendy Webb; the kind staff at Lipson Cancer Center, volunteers from Shepherd Home and a host of family members, faithful friends and caregivers. Their kindness will never be forgotten. Friends may call on Friday from 3-7 PM at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Road. Please meet the family on Saturday morning at 9AM at St. Joseph's Church, 43 Gebhardt Road, Penfield where a Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In memory of Joanne, and for all those in health care that give comfort to the sick and the dying, please consider a donation to Shepherd Home, 1959 Five Mile Line Road, Penfield, NY 14526.
