Obituary of William D. Evans

William David Evans, Sr. of Fairport passed away peacefully at Shepherd Home on November 4, 2009, at age 75. He is survived by his devoted wife, Dianne and three children, William Jr. (Ann Marie), Douglas (Mary) and Timothy (Sara); three grandchildren, Marissa, William and Julia; Bob and Regina Wardwell. Bill was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania on December 1, 1933, as the only child of George and Luella Evans. He graduated from The Ohio State University and Western Reserve University with business degrees and worked as a sales manager with General Electric for over 30 years in Cleveland, Kansas City, Rochester and Detroit. Bill worked on lighting projects with clients such as NASA, Chrysler and Xerox. Bill and Dianne were married on December 17, 1960, after meeting on a blind date in Cleveland. He coached his kids in Fairport Baseball and served as a Boy Scout leader. Bill and Dianne were active for many years at the Penfield United Methodist Church. After retiring from GE in 1991, Bill and Dianne moved back to Rochester and enjoyed being grandparents and volunteering in the community. Bill also taught business classes at Monroe Community College. Bill was the President of the Board of Directors of Grace Urban Ministries, as a living example of its mission to support families and community. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed being out on the course with friends. Bill touched many lives and treasured the loving relationships that Dianne will continue. The family would like to thank the Shepherd Home, Dr. Richard Gagnier, Lifetime Care, Lipson Cancer Center and all those who assisted in Bill's health care, for the compassion given to him and his family. No prior calling. Private interment at White Haven Memorial Park. A Memorial Service will be held at Penfield United Methodist Church, 1795 Baird Rd., Penfield on November 14 at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shepherd Home, Penfield United Methodist Church or Grace Urban Ministries.
