I was a member of Penfield's first football team (1965-1969)which was coached by Don Stewart. On behalf of the many players who grew and learned under Coach Stewart I offer thanks and celebration of his life and legacy. To all the ex-players--- one last time-- "See the Tree".

Don Stewart taught more than history back in the early sixties. I can still hear him say "I kid you not." That was a sign that we had better pay attention to whatever life lesson we needed to learn.
My thoughts and sympathy are with his children and grandchildren.

He was my Uncle Donald. He called me "Monkey Toes" when I was a little kid. And I was a teenager he called me "SPOOK" (he said I reminded him of Cousin 'It' in the Adams Family.) We stayed in touch via email. I do a lot of bragging about Daniel Bray. I will miss him a lot. He was just a great guy. I got him back on the monkey wisecracks a couple of years ago - I sent him a T-Shirt that said "I'm a Monkey's Uncle".

I remember Mr. Stewart as the best history teacher at PHS. Strict but fair, he had high expectations for everyone in his class and everyone felt they should do their best - we knew we'd work hard and pass the regents.
Go Giants!

Mr. Stewart ( never could call him anything else) was one of the best & most encouraging teachers I have ever had. He gave much and demanded much. After more than 40 years it was so wonderful to reconnect with, and stay connected to, him through emails. God bless him and I like to picture him skating with Maureen now.

Mr. Stewart's obituary doesn't include the hundreds--thousands?- of students on whom he made such a positive and lasting impression. As someone who entered the field of education, in large part due to his influence, I hope I've been able to extend his legacy long into the future.

Mr. Stewart inspired us - my sister Nancy, brother Doug and I all had him. He was a first class teacher with demanding standards -especially essay writing - and engaging enthusiasm. I appreciate a letter to the editor he wrote on behalf of the RMSC - he understood and practiced citizenship. Godspeed.

Godspeed to a great man who both altered and focused the courses of so many lives. You were the best teacher I ever had and I will miss you.
Here's to both you and Maureen. May you spend eternity together on the shores of Barbados.
