Penfield, January 6, 2025, at the age of 86. Predeceased by his loving wife, Ann, of 60 years. He is survived by his sister, Katy (Bill) Marchetti and his six children, Ann (Dwayne) Foley, Andy (Kristine) Gatesman, Mary (Charles) Tanevich, Alice Nikolaou, Kathy (Scott) Smith, and Jenni (Brian) Shevlin, 18 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Fred spent 4 active years in the U.S. Navy and 16 more years in the Naval Reserves. He graduated with B.S. in Electrical Engineering and M.S. in Material Science from RIT. Some of his work on top-secret government programs for Kodak are on display at the Rochester Museum and Science Center. Fred was active at St. Joseph’s Church in Penfield and his many volunteer activities. He worked at the Food Shelf, delivered communion to shut-ins, was an adult volunteer in the Rochester City School District for third graders. He enjoyed his retirement years doing crossword puzzles, playing trivia games, traveling, and enjoying his grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held Sunday January 12, 2025, at Jennings Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Road, Penfield, from 4pm – 7pm. Funeral Mass will be Monday January 13, 2025, St. Joseph’s Church, 43 Gebhardt Road, Penfield at 10:30am. Interment will be private at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Albion, NY, the next day.
