Obituary of Marilyn V. Utz

Marilyn VanWuyckhuyse Utz died suddenly in the loving arms of her son, David, on December 15, 2024, at the age of 90. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Henry, and her son-in-law, Charles VanBell. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy (David) Fitelson and Karen VanBell; sons, Daniel (Barbara) and David (Susan); 12 grandchildren, Ben (Kerry) Fitelson, Rebekah VanScoter, Phillip VanBell, Melissa (Shane) VanBell, Daniel (Courtney) Utz, Michael (Kasey) Utz, Ryan (Jamie) Utz, Katie (Bob) Graham, Adam (Tess) Surace, Zachary (Megan) Surace, Samuel and Elijah Utz; and 13 great-grandchildren, Jupiter, Conner, Harper; Greyson, Lincoln, Stevie, Olivia, Brayden, Everett, Walker, Penny, Drew, and Palmer.

Marilyn was the daughter of Charles and Louise VanWuyckhuyse and had one brother, Edward. She graduated from Benjamin Frankin High School in Rochester, NY. In 1954, Marilyn and Henry were married and built their home in Penfield where they raised their four children. Marilyn loved her home where she was a devoted homemaker and was able to live independently until her death. She enjoyed reading, watching birds from her kitchen windows and was always working on her next puzzle. She enjoyed talking to friends and family on the phone but only if you weren’t interrupting one of her regular television shows. Most of all, Marilyn loved her family. We were blessed to celebrate her 90th birthday in May, gather as a family for her grandson’s wedding this summer, and celebrate Thanksgiving together just a few weeks ago.

Marilyn was a member of Browncroft Community Church for more than 60 years. There they met their dear friends, Bob and Grace Fetter and John and Dolores Skinner, who they enjoyed traveling with every summer to Myrtle Beach. Marilyn also cherished her special friendship with Laura Heavner.

Friends are invited to a Memorial Service, on December 28, 2024 at 2 PM at Browncroft Community Church, 2530 Browncroft Blvd., Rochester, NY 14625. Visitation will be immediately following the service from 3-4 PM. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations to Browncroft Community Church.
