I met Bob, Aka Jelly, at Penfield Country Club. We actually played as partners in the two man event for a number of years. I actually think he didn't care about winning but instead loved the competition and the "jawing" between our opponents. For years we would play "pitch" and Jelly was a great player. I on the other hand was not a great pitch player, and as Mike Merriman noted he coined my nick name, Dave The Card Guy, which was shortened to just Card Guy, and then Card.
I will miss Jelly's sharp mind and his quick wit. He would often stop by to borrow my pressure washer or other tools and chat about life, his kids and of course golf.
My sincere condolences to all of Bob's family and wife Linda. He was one of a kind.

Living next door to Bob for 10 years was an experience like no other. Every encounter with him was a memory in the making. Too many, or imappropriate to share here. But this holiday season does bring back one Thanksgiving morning, around 2010. I woke up to see a pit dug in my back yard, and Bob stoking a fire to heat a 50 gal drum. After quickly throwing a coat over my pj's and bathrobe, I went outside to investigate. Bob had decided to roast a turkey, buried under the drum, over a fire. In my backyard. BTW. He was dressed in his pj, a tee shirt, rubber boots, an insulated vest and a fedora. Thankful to have known the man, and will always think of him with a smile.
My deepest sympathy to the Flannigan family. Joe will always be my 3rd son!

I shared a special bond with Jelly in that we both went to St. Bonaventure. When Mike Merriman introduced me to him, and he learned I was a Bonnie, we immediately became friends. He liked to talk to me about the markets and he always took time to ask about my kids. He made me laugh when we joked about how one should act and behave at the Club. I really enjoyed it when he reminisced about his many life-experiences. I will never forget him and his unique coolness. Rest in peace my friend- I raise a glass to the last “Close-Out.”

Bob eas a unique personality to all who knew him. My favorites memories include the many golf trips we took to Florida every Spring. Each was a story in itself with many laughs and visually a few new words to add to the "vocab".list . His sense of humor was unique as well with many phrases that only he could come up with. My condolences to Linda and the kids he was so proud of. May he rest in peace.

Sincere regrets to the family on Bob's passing. I knew Bob in his role as property manager at Carlson Park, which was one of my accounts while at RG&E. Bob took a particular interest in his energy bills, and we had many spirited discussions in his role as a "fiduciary" for his tenants. His insights and intellectual curiosity were remarkable, and I was pleased to call him a friend.

I had the privilege of knowing Bob for 30 years. He was one of the first members I met when working in the pro shop at Penfield Country Club. He was a skilled golfer but his most effective club was his Lip Wedge. He loved the competitiveness of golf, especially match play. He won the club match play event multiple times and his name is on the wooden plaques at the club, or as Jelly would say, On the Wall. His unique sayings are limitless and many are thankfully still in use today. We all admired and looked up to Bob and knew that the ultimate honor was getting a nickname from him. And like his sayings, many of those nicknames are still active today!
Jelly, if I am a few minutes late to your funeral, I will stay after cause like you taught us, it is all about TiP- Time In Pew.
You will be missed but fondly remembered pal.

"Jelly" was one of a kind. I was fortunate to have spenta lot of time playing many rounds of golf with him; including some famous trips to FL, Philly and other places. Always appreciated his wisdom and fun spirit.

My memories of Bob are priceless. Although I saw him infrequently the past 20+ years, he was always with me as I introduced much of his lingo and goofy mannerisms to a whole group of golfers he never met. They have no idea of the origin of half the things they say, but I always smile and think of Jelly when I hear them. May his memory live on. My sincerest condolences to his large family and great group of friends.

Bob was one in a million or maybe 10 or 20 million. A truly unique fun and memorable person. Bob was my sponsor at PCC . As someone 20 years older than myself He gave me a lot of good advice in how to manage a large family as we both had them. He tought me how to hit recovery shots from under the trees at PCC . We had a ton of fun playing pitch and many other games at PCC. Thoes were the best times of my life at the club. We will miss Bob but will always have to memories of those fun Times shared at the club.

Visiting Robert both at St. Ann’s and Cherry Ridge, I have a small idea how challenging these past months have been for him. The entire Pastoral Care Team is saddened by his loss. We promise our prayers.
