Obituary of Michael A. Leggett
Michael Andrew Leggett
December 19, 1965 – November 7, 2024
Michael Andrew Leggett, 58, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was the devoted husband of Francine, his high school sweetheart and partner of 38 years. Together, they built a beautiful family, including their son, Michael (Valerie) Leggett and daughter, Melanie (Jason) Clary, and were especially proud of their grandchildren, Elaina, Miles, and Hudson, who brought boundless joy into his life.
Mike was the beloved son of Jeanette Bondurant. He was also the son of the late Evan “Pete” (Elaine) Leggett. He is survived by his loving sister, Melissa (Peter) Staffelli, and his mother-in-law, Jean Kane. Mike also leaves behind brothers-and sisters-in-law, Theresa (Tony) Gringer, Bill (Amy) Kane, Dennis (Kristin) Kane, and Donna (Jay) Doyle. In addition, he is survived by his step-siblings, Cynthia Broomfield Herman, John Farrell, and Terry (Anna) Farrell.
He was a cherished uncle to his many nieces and nephews, Whitney Staffelli, Sabrina Staffelli, Sawyer Staffelli, Kelsey Gringer, Carley Gringer, William Kane, Evan (Rosie) Kane, Tyler Kane, Ryan Kane, Ian Kane, Alexis (Aaron) Regelsberger, Sami (Blake) Benson, and Abbi VanWinkle. Mike also leaves behind his step-nieces and step-nephews, Megan (Chris) Roark, Joshua (Jennifer) Broomfield, and Corinne Farrell.
A proud graduate of Honeoye Falls Lima High School, Mike dedicated much of his life to his career at Shawndra Products, where he began as a welder and worked his way up to plant manager. Mike connected with his co-workers as he cared about each person for the individual they were. His work in custom filtration fabrication was a true passion, and he took great pride in creating high-quality products that served others.
Known for his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith, Mike was a friend, confidant, and pillar of support to many. His adventurous spirit shone through in his love for building, driving, and racing cars and motorcycles. He approached all aspects of life with precision, dedication, and a joyful heart. Mike was meticulous about his home; maintaining an immaculate lawn and creating a welcoming space for family and friends. He was the kind of guy others could count on for whatever, whenever- especially if you needed advice or research on just about anything!
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at URMC, particularly those at Red Creek Family Medicine and Wilmot Cancer Clinic, whose compassionate care and support were invaluable during Mike’s final days.
Mike’s life was a living testament to his deep Christian faith. His legacy of love, honesty, strength, and devotion will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
