Obituary of Betty J. Spencer

Betty Jane Spencer, a cherished individual known for her king, loving, caring and humorous personality, left us Thursday, September 12, 2024.

Betty was born on October 17, 1933 in Palmyra, NY to parents, John F and Alice (Rommel) Martin.  On November 20, 1954 she married Walter L. Spencer.  Betty and Walter, along with two of his borthers were co-owners of Spencer Speedway, Williamson, NY.  Betty managed the concession stands for many years. Betty was very social, and she always had a joke to tell to spice-up the conversation. Betty was very generous, spending many hours helping friends and family, especially if children were involved.  Although she had no children, she often doted on her nieces and nephews.  Additionally, she was very fond of her two poodles, Taffy and Dori, and was a friend to every dog she met.

For many years Betty and Walt enjoyed traveling and visiting friends and family all over the country.  They often spent many winters on the road in their motor home where many new friendships were born.  Betty was a longtime resident of Fairport attending Assumption Church.  In 2011, she entered Solstice Sr. Loving, later to Atria and into the Fairport Baptist Home in 2023.

She was predeceased by her parents, John and Alice Martin, and her husband, Walter L. Spencer.  She is survived by her brothers, Robert Martin of Penfield, Donald of Palmyra, and sisters, Mary Slaucenburgof Murrells Inlet, SC and Margaret Schellenger of Palmyra, NY as well as many dear nieces and nephews.

Memorial calling hours will be Thursday, September 19 from 5-7 pm at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Road, Penfield, NY.  A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Church of the Assumption, 20 East Avenue, Fairport, NY at 11:15 a.m.  Interment will follow at White Haven Memorial Park, 210 Marsh Road, Pittsford, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be to Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Road, Fairport, NY 14450 or you may visit the website www.lollypop.org
