Obituary of Leo F. Murphy

Leo Francis Murphy of Penfield, New York, 83, passed away peacefully on July 22nd at his lake home in Canandaigua after a brave battle against cancer. Leo was born on January 17, 1941, in Ontario, NY, to Vincent and Marian Shea Murphy.  He was raised in Marion, NY, and was a proud resident of Penfield for 56 years. He married Judy Williams on May 11, 1968. He worked faithfully for SWBR Architects in Rochester, NY for 40+ years. As a project manager, his dedication to the job and expertise in the field were revered by everyone who came across his professional path. Leo was dedicated to his family, country and community. He served in the Army and diligently served the Penfield Volunteer Fire Department from 1969-2024. He had many leadership roles including president and most recently as acting secretary of the Penfield Fire Commission. 

As a longtime member of Penfield Country Club, he enjoyed playing golf and spending time with friends. He was also an avid Yankees fan. His smile was infectious and the respect he gained from all he met was immeasurable. He will be remembered for his love and dedication to his wife, Judy, and as being a loving father and grandfather. Leo was predeceased by his brother, John. He is survived by his loving wife, Judy, older brother, Pat (wife Barb) Murphy, younger sisters, Margaret Breimayer and Mary Maggiulli (husband Michael), son, Brian Murphy and his wife, Ellen, son, Paul Murphy and his wife, Kerry, and grandchildren, Jack, Parker, Connor, Caroline, Maggie and Shea Murphy. 

Family and friends are welcome to attend a funeral service held at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Penfield on 7/29/24 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Penfield Fire Company, https://www.penfieldfire.org
