February 3, 1937 to May 14, 2024

Beloved husband of Julia (née Brennan) for 62 years. Father of Heather (Chuck) Garbarino, Christina (Tim) Lambert. Proud Grandfather of Aimée (Ian) O’Reilly, Courtney Lambert, Jordan (Colleen Feeney) Garbarino and Caitlyn (Evan) Jones. Great Grandfather of Sloane & Quinn O’Reilly and James Garbarino. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

David was born in Fulton, NY to Charles Ives & Dorothy (née Smith) Gehring. After attending SUNY Morrisville, he and Julie were married and began their lives in Seneca Falls, NY. Dave was employed at Goulds Pumps and Julie was teaching at Frank Knight Elementary School.

David moved his young family to Fairport in 1970, where he loved helping his neighbors: snowy days would have him working his way down five or six driveways with the snowblower. Fifteen years later he started Gehring Pumps with Julie at his side. Christina joined in the family business in 1989.

David was an avid boater, dog lover and longtime member of Red Jacket Yacht Club in Seneca Falls where he happily fulfilled many roles: Commodore, Grounds Director, Waterfront Director, Pool Chairman and fending off young males from his daughters. He and Julie enjoyed many summers together on Cayuga Lake.

Julie, Heather and Chris are eternally grateful for the dedicated compassionate care of David during his last weeks by the ICU staff at Newark Wayne Community Hospital.

Family and friends may call on Sunday, May 19, 2024 from 1-4pm at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Road, Penfield, NY 14612. A short prayer service will follow.
