Obituary of Richard M. Piccarreto

Richard M. Piccarreto, DDS Pittsford: December 10, 2008. Survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Beverly; children, Richard (Patricia Tsutsumi) and Lindsay (William) Erickson; grandchildren, Robert, James and Kayla and their mother, Dorothy Carey, Karleigh and Taylor and her father, Michael Abbott; brothers, Carl and Louis Piccarreto; mother-in-law, Lucille Alparone; brother-in-law, Ralph (Aprile) Alparone; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Metzger; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Frances and Louis Piccarreto; stepmother, Dolly Piccarreto; infant sister, Gloria; sisters-in-law, Nancy and Jenny Piccarreto and father-in-law, Dr. Ralph Alparone. Richard attended #43 school, where he was selected Standard Bearer. He went to Jefferson High School, where he was also selected as Standard Bearer and Valedictorian. Richard was a member of the National Honor Society. He received the Bausch and Lomb award for math and science. He attended Colgate University, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Richard graduated from University of Buffalo Dental School and received several awards and prizes for scoring 100 on the National Board Pharmacology exam. After graduation he was commissioned into the U.S. Army as a Captain in the Medical Corps. He was stationed at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD. He liked to say that "You slept better knowing that I was protecting the soft underbelly of the Chesapeake Bay." Upon discharge, he set up his practice with his father-in-law, Dr. Alparone. Richard belonged to the American Dental Association, 7th District Dental Society, Penfield Country Club and Locust Hill Country Club. He was an avid golfer and loved crossword puzzles and bridge. The family wishes to express special thank yous to Doctors Bushunow, Vuillequez and Adjai. To the staff of Lipson Cancer Center, Linden Medical Group, Roswell Park Cancer Institute and Lifetime Care Hospice as well as Fr. Michael Bausch, Fr. Peter Deckman and the pastoral staff of Church of the Transfiguration. Also a special thank you to all of our wonderful friends for their support and encouragement especially, Nancy and Neil Rapp whose daily kindnesses brought comfort and ease. Friends may call at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Rd., Saturday 2-6 pm. Richard's Funeral Mass will be held Monday 11 am at Church of the Transfiguration, 50 W. Bloomfield Rd., Pittsford. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider Lipson Cancer Center.
