Obituary of Richard O'Connell

Richard Peter O’Connell, (86), of Rochester, New York, passed away on January 3, 2024.

 

Richard, more commonly known as Dick, was a loving husband, partner, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. Dick was a graduate of Aquinas Institute.  He was employed at Xerox Corporation in Webster, New York, for 29 years, where he worked as an Electrical Engineer.  He was a Naval Veteran who was an Aviation Electronics Technician for US Navy Patrol Squadron VP Eagles based in Jacksonville, Florida.  Dick was an avid antique collector of early oil lamps and was president of the Rushlight Club from 2019-2022.  He was an avid hiker and Adirondack 46er as he climbed all 46 Adirondack peaks.  Dick skied regularly in the winter and played golf all through the summer.  He was an enthusiastic Buffalo Bills and Notre Dame football fan.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

 

Dick is predeceased by his wife Catherine DeVincenzi O’Connell, and siblings David O’Connell, and Mary Ann Amos,  He is survived by his sister Kathy Patterson, partner Laurie Copp, children Mary Beth O’Connell (Till), Lynda Battaglia, and Chis Patrick O’Connell, grandchildren Michael (Christina) Till, Ryan (Rosie) Till, Michael Battaglia, Sarah Battagila and David Battaglia, great grandchildren Theodore Till and Carter Till.

 

Calling hours will be held Sunday, January 7, 2024 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home located at 1704 Penfield Road, Penfield, NY.  A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery located at 2461 Lake Avenue, Rochester, NY (Section South 45)  Reception to immediately follow
