Obituary of Gerald A. Thompson

THOMPSON, GERALD A. JR.

Fairport, NY, Passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 91 on November 4, 2023. He was predeceased by his parents, Gerald and Vera Thompson,  his sister Margaret Hayward and his first wife, Barbara Walsh Thompson. He is survived by his wife Antoinette (Toni), son Mark (Kathy)Thompson, daughter, Marti Blaies (Maggie ), grandchildren, Michael (Amanda) and Peter Thompson, Barbara (Justin)Wesley. Benjamin Blaies, and great-grandchildren, Maliyah, Mariah and Justin, Jr. and Makaylah Wesley, and Hadley Thompson, nephew Spencer (Donna) Parsons  and several other nieces and nephews.

 

Jerry’s childhood and youth were spent in Canandaigua, where he spent happy days at Roseland Park, playing baseball in a sandlot with the kids in the neighborhood and riding his bike all over town with his friends Bobby (aka “Blinky”) and Paul (aka “Bucky”).

 

Jerry served during the Korean conflict in the US Army 1952-54 and was in the inactive reserves for six years. He graduated from RIT  in 1957 with a degree in business, and spent his entire career in insurance business – first with Travelers Life Insurance and a large agency and then as an owner of Branch-Thompson Agency, Inc. in East Rochester.

From 1991 to 1992 he served as President of the Monroe County Agents Association,

 

Jerry was very civic minded. He was a member for over sixty years of Bushnell’s Basin Fire Department, serving as a civil officer, and he was Troop Committee Chairman of Scout Troop 207 in Fairport.

 

He was a longtime member of the Braman American Legion Post #1229 in Penfield, NY. Where he served in many positions as Commander, Adjutant, Historian and Trustee.

 

No formal visiting hours are planned, but  the family will greet guests in the narthex of Bethlehem Lutheran Church 48 Perrin Street Fairport, New York 14450 at 10AM  prior to a service at 11AM on Friday, November 17, 2023.  Internment will be in White Haven Cemetery, Pittsford, New York.
