Obituary of Shirley J. Lounsbury

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Shirley Jeannette (Nickerson) Lounsbury (Rochester, New York), born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, who passed away on October 31, 2023, at the age of 89, leaving to mourn family and friends. Shirley is predeceased by her loving husband, John, and two of her loving daughters, Dorothy and Joan  Dawson (son Jared). She is survived by daughter, Susan Mack, and her husband, Tim Mack, and granddaughter, Jennifer and husband Brett Greene. Shirley was a homemaker and enjoyed raising her daughters. She was a wonderful seamstress and made most of their clothes including their Sunday school dresses. She also found time to sew beautiful clothes for herself. When she and John learned that they were going to be grandparents to Jennifer, John carved a wooden cradle and Shirley outfitted it with lovely bumpers, a mattress pad, sheets and a quilt She spent many hours sewing beautiful hand smocked dresses for Jennifer and continued making her clothes through  grade school. John and Shirley also started an arts and craft business called Sugar and Spice. Shirley sewed beautiful dresses for babies, little girls and doll clothes She also knit hats to donate to Strong Hospital newborn babies.

Shirley was an avid gardener and had lovely gardens that were the talk of the neighborhood.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, November 7 from 4-6 pm at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Road, Penfield.  In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of Shirley.
