Obituary of John W. Cahill
John W. Cahill
November 15, 1941 – August 24, 2023
John Wayne Cahill, 81, of Webster, NY, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2023, surrounded by family. He was born on November 15, 1941, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Arthur and Jane (Bosch) Cahill. John was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and grandfather.
John retired from Eastman Kodak in 2001 after 30 years of dedicated service. Even in retirement, he continued to work various jobs to provide for his family. In his youth, John was an avid ping-pong player and track and cross-country athlete.
A devoted fan of John Wayne, he enjoyed spending time with his family, eating good food, reading Civil War and American history, and staying updated on current events.
John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sylvia (Bristow) Cahill of Webster; sons Andrew (Melissa) of Houghton; Matthew (Melissa) of Webster; and daughter, Emily (Cahill) Sherman of Irondequoit. He also leaves behind grandchildren Bethany Cahill, Brennen Cahill, Aubrey (Trevor) Stephenson, Matthew Cahill Jr., Easton Cahill, Jonathan Graham Cahill, C. Grace Sherman, and Jack Sherman. John is also survived by his siblings Lawrence Cahill of Greece and Virginia (Bruno) Robles of Georgia, as well as multiple nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Russel Cahill; and nephews, Mark Cornell and Clifford Bristow Jr.
John was a graduate of Franklin High School in Rochester, NY, where he valued his education and took pride in his accomplishments.
A service to celebrate John's life will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Jennings, Nulton, and Mattle Funeral Home, located at 1704 Penfield Road, Penfield, NY, 14526.
Calling hours will be from 11am to 12pm, followed by the memorial service from 12pm to 1pm. For those who would like to join the service via livestreaming, here is the link to use.
