Obituary of Raymond Carl Loyer
The youngest of nine children, Ray Loyer was born on August 29th, 1932 to Amos and Gertrude Loyer. Despite the hardships of being born in the height of the Great Depression, Ray was lucky to have the love and support of a large family on a small dairy farm outside of Cleveland, Ohio. His early life experiences instilled in him a deep sense of family and his core faith in Roman Catholicism.
He worked his way through John Carroll University earning a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and married the love of his life, his wife of 51 years Patricia (nee Boisseau) just before graduating. After serving in the Army to fulfill his ROTC requirement, they returned to the Cleveland area where he earned his law degree at Cleveland-Marshall Law School. Shortly after passing the Bar exam he went on to pass the Patent Bar exam (he was deservedly proud of passing the exam the first time he took it)and practiced patent law for nearly 60 years.
His career had many highlights that he liked to look back upon and share his stories with others. He held prominent positions at both Xerox and Monsanto.
His illustrious career and the love he had for his wife created a wonderful family life for his five children: Mary, Kathy (James Moldt), Ray Jr.(Russell Knapp),Joe (Mai Nguyen), and David (Susan Dennis).
Their family tree has flourished and branched out with many grandchildren: Lisa (Michael Gadsby), Andrea (Dave Cedarleaf), Matt (KC -Kristine Coscia), Eliot (Anne Sunderman), Anna, Lily, Joseph, Joshua (Sabrina Roya), Hannah (Michael Carrick). He was blessed to have many great children as well, James, Grace, Emily, Jack, Anna, Emilia, Maddie, Mason, Atlas And Cyrus. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Judy Potthoff.
Ray was a great lawyer, man of faith, devoted citizen active in local politics, wonderful father, loving husband, uncle, brother, grandfather and great grandfather who never met a stranger and embraced the principles of his faith.
Ray's Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., St Joseph's Church, 43 Gebhardt Rd, Penfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made in his name to Catholic Relief Services (www.crs.org).
