Obituary of June Ingleson Brush
June (Ingleson) Brush grew up in Jamestown, N.Y. with her younger brother, Jim. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1956 with High Honors where she received a nursing scholarship. She studied nursing in Rochester at Strong Memorial Hospital and became a Registered Nurse. It is at the U of R that she met and married Nelson Leenhouts in 1958. They were married for 18 years and had three children who they raised in Brighton.
June married John D. Brush, Jr. (“Jack”) in 1982. June and Jack enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially their couples group. They enjoyed attending the RPO, events at the Memorial Art Gallery, and traveling. June’s favorite destinations were Antarctica, Alaska, Iceland, and St. Petersburg. Jack passed away just short of their 25th wedding anniversary.
June’s varied career included working for a dermatologist and teaching pre-school. After graduating from Nazareth College with a B.A. in 1985, June returned to the medical field where she worked in hospice at Isaiah House. Along with travelling, June loved weaving, hiking, continuously learning, and spending time at the lake. However, her greatest joy was being Mother to three children, Grandmother to 11 grandkids, and Great-grandmother to two great-granddaughters.
June’s life exemplified a quote from Mother Theresa that she had saved, “…it is not how much we do but how much love we put into the doing….”
June was predeceased by her husband, John D. (Jack) Brush, and grandson, William "Billy" Struzzi.
She is survived by her children, Deborah Leenhouts, Catherine Sperrick (Garry), and Jeffrey Leenhouts (Kristen); grandchildren, Sarah Struzzi-Noto (AJ), Megan Houppert (Eric), Zachary Shumway, Linnea Shumway (Darrell Vannederynen), Joshua Shumway, Samantha Shumway, Colin, Matthew, Eric and Claire Leenhouts; great granddaughters, Emmy and Hazel Houppert; brother, James (Jim) Ingleson (Carolyn).
