My condolences to the Vanderberg family. We lived directly behind them until we moved to NJ IN 1971. Mrs Vandenberg was always very nice! Both my parents are also gone now dad 2010, mom 2021), but never forgotten. Interestingly enough, I was just chatting with Janelle Biggs, another former neighbor, before the Eckers moved in. Stay well everyone.

It's been too long since I've seen or spoke with Aunt Betty, but this morning I woke up with her on my mind and in my heart not knowing that she went to be with our Lord 2 weeks ago. I was remembering her kindness to me and to everyone, her laugh, her sense of humor, her compassion. She always made me feel good about myself. I always felt comforted by her presence. She had a way of putting excitement in the air. (I also loved her apple pies and chocolate chip cookies.) Aunt Betty, I love you. I can't wait to see you again in Heaven. Thank you for sharing your love with me here. Beth, Janice & Tommy, I'm so very sorry for your loss.

My mother (and father) gave me and Beth and Tom an incredible childhood and my mom walked beside me throughout my life,
She was a doer and a maker and if she had an idea of something she wanted to create, she couldn’t stay away from it.
Her home and the homes of her children and grandchildren were filled with things she made. Curtains, embroidery, reupholstered furniture, restored antiques. She helped clean our homes, wallpapered for people, cut hair. Pretty much anything that involved working with her hands is what she enjoyed. She was a great seamstress and made coats and dresses, changing the pattern with clever twists, like puffier sleeves.
She loved to bake and in her later years watched cooking shows, not to be entertained, but to learn the tricks of the trade. She was particular about her techniques and when I baked with her, she always took the lead.
She was observant of everything and beauty was something she could find in all sorts of things. She loved her collection of rocks and heart stones she found on trips, and artfully placed them amongst her flowers.
She had style and put clothes together in unique ways, never “overdoing the jewelry”. She loved her pins and scarves, her wool coats and leather shoes. Although frugal her entire life, she splurged on Red Barn suits for my dad... “you get what you pay for”. She had the best taste in ties.
She loved times at the cottage and playing cards, except for when my dad sat to the left of her playing euchre and always called trump.
Her Christian faith mattered to her and she quietly gave to several organizations to help the downtrodden.
She loved the Heberle farm and she relished the time spent with her father, brother and his children.. She never saw an apple variety she wasn’t enthused about. She was known for her pickles and canned goods and she was the best pie baker- ever.
She taught us to accomplish tasks, not to be lazy, to “use our heads”, to avoid arguing and try to get along. She held everyone to standards. This was sometimes difficult, but it surely gained her respect from all of us. She knew life could be hard, but you keep going and “don’t just sit around”.
She fiercely loved her family and was proud of us all. She was loved by her sisters, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many, many relatives for all sorts of reasons and by others she met in all different places.
The world has lost a treasure and heaven better get ready for a new force. That will be some kind of reunion when she is re-united with so many relatives she dearly loved.
