Obituary of Loretta Anne Dawe

Loretta Anne Dawe passed away peacefully on July 5, 2022. Predeceased by her parents Mark and Anna (Madigan) McLaughlin; brothers Thomas, Mark, Eugene, Paul, Alfred, and Raymond McLaughlin. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Stephen; children Stephen (Kristin), Michael and Susan (William) Stinson; sister Mary McLaughlin; grandchildren Jack, Ryan, Katie, Tyler and Owen and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Anne was born in Rochester to Irish immigrants during the Great Depression. Equal parts County Clare and County Mayo, she was the daughter of a World War I veteran, and watched four of her own brothers enlist before she was a teenager in the 1940s. The boys all returned safely to rejoin the family and reinforce the unbreakable bonds for which the McLaughlins and Madigans were well known.

After graduating from Our Lady of Mercy High School, she started a 25-plus-year career at Eastman Kodak where she met her future husband. Anne was fiercely proud of her Irish heritage and delighted in visiting her parents’ birthplace with her children and grandchildren.

Family gatherings were a constant in her life: from early days on Rosewood Terrace to multigenerational get-togethers poolside on Cheswell Way. Everyone knew Anne as selfless and caring. She was the “mom of the neighborhood” as her children grew up, running the house that was the center of activity for all kids especially during the long magical days of summer. Her family meant everything to her, and she meant everything to us.

Friends may call Monday, July 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Road, Penfield, NY 14526. A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, July 12 at 1 p.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 2617 East Ave., Rochester, NY 14610.
