David was born on April 29, 1941 and is predeceased by his parents Robert and Dorothy Sturtz, and his sister, Janet Sorokti DiMaria.

A long time Irondequoit resident, David went to Irondequoit High School and on to Clarkson University – where he was a member of Theta Chi fraternity.

Upon graduation from college in 1963, he married the love of his life, Barbara, and started his career at A.R. Pierrepont Company.

During his long career, he served as President of Rochester Builder’s Exchange for two terms, and the NYS Painting and Decorating Contractors of America (PDCA) for two terms.  David was a long time Board member for Building Industry Employers (BIE).

While he was active in the business, he was also generous with his time for organizations he believed in.  David was very active in Penfield Rotary, served as Board member for many years of Camp Haccamo in Penfield and volunteered at numerous LPGA Golf Tournaments in Rochester. He was also honored with the Paul Harris Award for outstanding service by Rotary International.

Dave was an avid golfer and a long time member of Penfield Country Club where you could find him every Thursday post golf game with his buddies and enjoying his signature drink – the “Sturtz Special.”

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara, his 4 children Daniel (Lynn), Jeffrey (Kacey), Ann-Marie, Maureen (Tom) Martello and his 4 grandchildren – Mackenzie, Caroline, RJ, and Madison. Sister and brother-in-laws; Suzanne Andres, Joan Metzger, Robert (Evie) Andres, Jean (Gary) Heinsler and many nieces and nephews.

Friends can call on Sunday March 6th between 2-5pm at Jennings Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home located at 1704 Penfield Road in Penfield NY.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, March 7th at 10am at Peace of Christ Parish at St. James, 130 Brett Road, Rochester NY.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses on West 6 floor at Highland Hospital for their excellent care of David.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to contribute to the Rotary Foundation or a charity of your choosing.

We will all remember Dave for his great smile that could light up a room and his infectious laugh. He is already so very missed.
