Obituary of Philomena T. Colucci

Philomena T. Colucci

Penfield - God called Philomena into eternal peace on November 23, 2021, at the age of 102 years. Predeceased by her husband of nearly forty years, Dr. David Colucci, brothers (and sisters-in-law) Dr. Theodore DeRoberts (Annette) and Dr. Michael DiRoberto (Frances), she is survived by her twin daughters Christine and Barbara Colucci of Rochester, along with many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, grand- and great-grand- nieces and nephews, and close family friends.

Born on February 18, 1919, Philomena grew up in Rochester, and was baptized (and later married) at St. Philip Neri Church. She graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School, and worked as a legal secretary for many years, also working at WSAY as an Italian translator. She married David, the love of her life, on November 10, 1945, and often worked in his pediatric office.

Philomena was a spiritual, caring, and selfless person who was always there for her family, dedicated to her husband and devoted to her daughters. She cared for her ailing mother for several years, and later cared for her husband when he became ill. The friendships she formed endured for many years. Throughout her life, she gave of her time and volunteered in a variety of ways, whether it be at her daughters' schools, or in church ministry. She was an accomplished cook and baker, and enjoyed creating many hand-crafted jeweled eggs that became treasured gifts to family and friends. She loved family trips, and traveled worldwide throughout her life. Babies and children held a special place in her heart, and she was also an avid animal lover.

The family is forever grateful for the loving care and compassion of the nurses and aides at the Friendly Home, where she resided for the last 10 years, and died peacefully amidst loving family and caregivers.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held in honor of Philomena on Wednesday, December 1, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Thomas More Church, 2617 East Avenue, Rochester. Masks are required. Mass will be streamed live at https://youtu.be/kW7LhAi7d-M. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
