Obituary of Shirley R. Wright

Shirley R. Wright passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, Shirley Elizabeth Russell Wright passed away at the age of 93. Shirley was born on September 8, 1927 to LeRoy and Anna Russell in Oneonta, NY. She was valedictorian of her Oneonta High School class, graduated from Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA, and received a master’s degree from Oneonta State College. On June 21, 1957, Shirley married Horace Church Wright. She raised two sons, Mark and Bruce. Shirley taught third and fourth grades at Dryden Central School for 20 years and was the organist at Dryden Presbyterian Church for over 40 years. After retiring from teaching, Shirley continued to care for her son, Bruce, and volunteered tirelessly in her church and the Dryden community. Shirley was a strong, beloved woman; a lover of music, family, and community. Shirley is predeceased by her husband, her parents and her sister, Virginia Russell; and survived by sons, Mark (Pamela Ryan) and Bruce; sister, Martha Titus (Robert); sister-in-law Lois Wright; grandchildren, Quinn (Ashley) and Shannon; great-granddaughter, Riley, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held in Dryden at a later time.
