Obituary of Catherine S. Marsden

Catherine (Schneider) was born on Oswego, NY to Nellie and Joseph Schneider on December 4, 1930, joining her brothers Joseph and James. She attended St. John’s Catholic School, Oswego High School, and graduated from RIT in 1951. Catherine married George Marsden in June 1956. After living in Arlington, VA for three years, they moved to Rochester, NY in 1958 to raise their family. While her children were young, she volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader and then became a successful Real Estate Salesperson and NYS Broker. She enjoyed needlework, playing cards, gambling, and her life long friendships. For over fifty years, she treasured her summers at the family camp on Lake Ontario. She and George spent much of their retirement traveling the world and wintering in Florida. Her primary focus was always her family and friends; she will be greatly missed. Catherine is survived by her husband of 64 years, George; daughters Jane (Rex, deceased) Swinehart, Catherine (John) Metzger, Mary (Kevin) Weckesser; son Michael (Linda) Marsden; grandchildren Sarah (Seth) Stramonine, Jacob (Kayla) Metzger, Madeline (John) Nizamis, Catherine (Brian) Patterson, Erin (Tristan) Rapp, Benjamin and Sarah Marsden, Natalie and Eileen Weckesser; great grandchildren Caden, Claire, and Cora Stramonine, Isabella and Sophia Nizamis, and Bryce Patterson, along with two more great grandchildren expected in the coming months. She is also survived by her nephew James (Margaret) Schneider, niece Mary Ellen Barbeau, and numerous friends that she thought of as family.
