I had the pleasure of first meeting John in the early 1980's when Linda and I were doing our graduate work together at the University of Michigan. He was always wearing that wonderful smile of his, showing not only his love for life, but his pride of family that he carried so deeply within him. I got to know John a little more when I was in Linda and Greg's wedding party. His wonderful dry sense of humor and his excitement of that event was precious to behold. Although I hadn't seen John in many years, I saw many wonderful photos of him at a variety of family events and I always remembered fondly his incredible zest for life and his genuine love for others. Although physical miles and the busyness of life kept us from seeing each other for many years, I felt such pain when I first learned of his illness and was deeply saddened when I got word of his passing. What a beautiful life he lived as a faithful, devoted Christian man, husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather. May the burden of sorrow now pressing on your hearts be lightened by knowing what a beautiful example of love, kindness and compassion he gave to so many. May God wrap you all in His loving care and carry you through this part of life's journey with hope and healing from your loss. With love....Fontaine
