Obituary of Donald Alan Sweetland

Fort Mill, SC Peacefully on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at age 92. He is predeceased by his parents, Carl and Betty; daughter, Laurie. Donald is survived by his wife, Nancy (Stenner); son, Mark (Mark); daughters, Ann Kunes, Ellen (Joe) Bradshaw, Amy (Mark) Tewksbury; sisters, Carol and Roberta; grandson, David; granddaughters, Laurie, Elizabeth, Stephanie; lifelong friends, Jack Auer and Tom Plumb.

Don was a graduate of Cornell and served in the US Navy during WW2. He worked at Rochester Gas & Electric in marketing for his entire career, retiring in 1983. He volunteered on the parish council Building and Grounds committee at St. Joseph's in Penfield. He also helped out with the Monroe County Republican committee.

Don loved to read, and one of his lifelong gifts to his children was taking them to the library every two weeks when they were kids. He liked detective, mystery and action novels. And passed that along to Mark and Ann. Another love was for Keuka Lake, and family and the Plumbs went every summer for a week on West Lake Rd. He and Tom would take out the sailboat.

Don and Nancy enjoyed traveling around the world, visiting different countries and continents throughout their lifetime. Upon retiring, they lived in Sarasota for over 25 years, enjoying the good life on the lanai. They recently moved to South Carolina, nearer to Ann.

Friends may call at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Rd., Friday, August 9, 6-7 PM. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, 10 AM at St. Joseph's Church, 43 Gebhardt Rd., Penfield.
