Charles W. "Charlie" McElhinney

Pittsford: Filled with the love of his family, and friends, Charles William McElhinney passed away on Sunday, Jan. 6th. He was the beloved husband of Jeanne Gasser McElhinney, and the devoted father of Cory McElhinney, Kent (Victoria) McElhinney, Ryan McElhinney, and Megan (Robert) Harold. “Bopa” was the adored grandfather of Alison and Camryn McElhinney, Rafael and Ramon McElhinney, Addison, Brooke and Gavin Harold, and special brother of Gerry Lou Stanton. He is also survived by nephews and nieces Michael (Patricia) McElhinney, Mark (Julie) McElhinney, Daniel (Alyssa) McElhinney, Gerald (Patricia) Gasser, Elise Carvel, Joanne Suero, William (Lisa) Gasser, several great-nieces and nephews, and numerous dear friends. He is predeceased by his parents Thomas and Margaret McElhinney, and brothers Jerome and James McElhinney. Among the dedicated aides who helped compassionately care for Charlie in his home were Elizabeth Saunders, Terri Censak, Carla Scoto and Donald Wheat. 

Upon graduation from Whitesboro High School, Charlie joined the Army and was stationed in France. After his return, he attended Mohawk Valley Community College, St Mary’s Seminary, and earned a degree in Economics from Utica College of Syracuse University. He was a valued 33 year employee of Xerox. 

Charlie had a strong faith and was a member of the Church of the Transfiguration. Before Parkinson’s Disease slowed him, he traveled with the Men’s Fellowship to Booneville Kentucky to work with the poor, and volunteered with St. Vincent de Paul of Rochester, House of Mercy, Dimitri House, and St. Joseph’s House of Hospitality among others. He was a 47 year member of Metro Act/Justice. 

Charlie was deeply loved, and will be dearly missed. 

No prior calling. All are invited to Charlie’s Funeral Mass at the Church of the Transfiguration, 50 West Bloomfield Rd. Pittsford, Saturday 11AM with reception following. 

Donations in Charlie’s name to assist the impoverished would be welcomed at Holy Family Parish, 1439 KY 11, Booneville, KY 41314.
