Obituary of Gary L. Perkins

Penfield: September 23, 2018 at the age of 80.  Survived by sister, Jean VanDurme; brother, Donald (Dorothy) Perkins, Sr.; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.  Predeceased by sister, Viola Mallory and a niece.  Gray was born to Glenn and Edith Perkins in the Town of Silver Springs, Wyoming County, December 29, 1937.  He was raised on a farm in Silver Springs and in the Town of Ossian.  When the family moved to the Village of Dansville, Gary had a paper route and worked for the Roberts Nursery during high school.  Following High School he was employed by Gleason Works in Rochester, NY.  In 1956 he enlisted in the US Air Force and served 4+ years.  Gary returned to Gleason Works and retired after 17 years.  He was a member, President, and Drum Major for the Dansville White Saber’s Drum & Bugle Corps for several years.  After moving to Penfield in 1972, Gary served as Bar Manager and Club Manager for the Penfield Country Club for 7 years.  He was Bar Manager and for the Sherwood Manor Restaurant in Honeoye Falls for 6 years.  Gary retired after 12 years driving School Bus and 13 years as the Transportation Dispatcher for the Penfield Central School district.  He worked for the Town Recreation Dept. with the Senior Lunch Program and numerous Van trips for 10+ years. Gary was a life time member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, was a participant and Head Judge for the Rochester Area School Bus Roadeo Association for many years and was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.  He enjoyed Hunting, Archery, Bowling, Golfing and Gardening.

Friends may call at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Road, Friday September 28, 3-7PM.  A Burial Service will be held Saturday 11AM at the Greenlawn Cemetery, Dansville, NY.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shepherd Home Inc., 1959 Five Mile Line Road.
