Obituary of Paul J. Alfano
Paul J. Alfano of Penfield entered into eternal rest on December 2, 2014 at age 87. Paul was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ. He was an avid New York Giants, Mets and Knicks fan. He received his undergrad and graduate degrees in business from NYU. He served in the Navy in WW II as a Medic, receiving an honorable discharge. He met the love of his life Joan on the Jersey Shore when they were teenagers. They married, raised 4 children and moved from New Jersey to Michigan and eventually settled in Penfield for the last 50 years. They celebrated 63 years of marriage together and remain an inspiration to their children about love and family being important over all else. Paul was a devout Catholic. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus (March 1957) achieving 4th degree status. He believed in community service and was on the Penfield School Board during the mid-late 1970's. Most of all, he'll be remembered as a devoted family man and for his love of God and sports. We will miss him so very much.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Poerio, his sisters, Yoland Bovasso and Marie Taylor; and beloved daughter, Maureen. He is survived by his wife, Joan; his sons, Paul and Mark; and his daughter, Carol (Steve) DeRycke. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Katy and Eric Alfano of CA and Paul DeRycke of Penfield. He is lovingly remembered by his extended family and dear friends. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Michael Kukfa, Heathwood Assisted Living and Aaron Manor for their wonderful care during the last part of his life.
A private viewing was held for the family. Friends are invited to join his Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday December 16, 11:30 AM at St. Joseph's Church, 43 Gebhardt Road, Penfield. Interment, Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to the American Diabetes, American Heart or American Cancer Societies or a Christian mission of your choosing.
