Obituary of Jeffrey J. Chafitz

Jeffrey J. Chafitz of Rochester died peacefully at Strong Memorial Hospital on November, 19, 2014, at age 65. He was predeceased by his parents Carl and Miriam Chafitz of Fall River, MA. He is survived by Ellyn (Dorfman) Chafitz, his wife and best friend for more than 40 years; a brother, Harvey Chafitz and his wife, Pepi of Framingham, MA, and their two children, James and Jennifer; another brother, Steven Chafitz and his wife, Arleen of New Midway, MD, and their two children, Robbie (Magda) and Nicole (Bill); great-nephews, Ryan and Brendan; and two ridiculously loyal companion dogs, Duffy and Harry. Jeff arrived in Rochester in the summer of 1971, after graduating Boston's Emerson College with a degree in Speech and Communications, to take a position at WOKR-TV13, where he began an uninterrupted career in broadcast TV, video production, and advertising. After 10 years at WOKR, Jeff briefly worked at WROC-TV8, the marketing agency Herb Gross and Company, and as a freelance video producer. He returned to WOKR, now 13WHAM, to join the sales department, where he spent 17 years producing commercials for many local businesses. Partnering with many talented people along the way, Jeff had a very rewarding and fulfilling career before retiring in the spring of 2014. Jeff enjoyed his Sunday morning bowling league, playing golf badly, and indulging in his passion for photography. Friends and family are invited to celebrate a life well lived Monday 11 AM in All Seasons Chapel at White Haven Memorial Park 210 Marsh Road, Pittsford. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any favorite charity in Jeff's name. The family especially wants to thank Strong Hospital's Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and Palliative Care unit staffs for their sensitive and unswerving devotion to making Jeff feel comfortable and safe.
