Jean E. Groff of Rochester died on Thursday April 10, 2014, after an extended illness. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Marlin Groff. She is survived by her many friends including Trudy Bortelson, Robert Conner and Georgianna Becker who will greatly miss her humor, organization and love. She graduated from Monroe High School and then the New York State College for Teachers at Albany, NY, now known as the N.Y.S. University at Albany, in the class of 1938 with a major in French and Business. She taught French and Business in Alexander then Fairport, NY before being hired by Kodak to teach newly hired executives how to write. She loved to travel and to take which resulted in lunch time travel logs for fellow workers. At their encouragement she approached Kodak to have larger presentations which resulted in the Kodak Travel Club Board to oversee presentations in Building 28 which continued in to the 1990's. She also contributed to the formation of the Kodakery and the Kodak Camera Club, where she taught many the art of photography. She was a respected water color painter exhibiting in local shows. She was a long term supporter and contributor to many organizations including: WXXI, RPO, Geva Theater, Downstairs Cabaret, the Landmark Society, Lollypop Farm, University at Albany, Robert Wesleyan College, Habitat for Humanity and many other organizations. Habitat for Humanity honored Jean at a tea on April 5, 2007 at Valley Manor for a gift of $75,000 to build a home at 44 Grape Street. A special thanks to the personnel from Caregivers and the independent aids for making it possible for Jean to continue living in her home including, Pattie, Crystal, Martha, Lois, Kim, Ida, Veeda, Kalie and others. No prior calling. Friends are invited to Jean's Memorial Service, Tuesday, 2 PM at Valley Manor, 1570 East Avenue, Rochester. No flowers please, but instead a contribution to your favorite charity in Jean's memory would be Jean's request.
