Obituary of Donald J. Dacey

Donald Dacey of Penfield passed away April 4, 2014.He was born: June 10, 1927 in the Bronx, NY. He was predeceased by his parents John and Mary Dacey and his sister Irene Walker. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Hadlock Dacey and children Terry (Janet) Dacey, Kathleen, Patricia (David) McMillan, grandchildren Sean (Melissa) Dacey, Lauren (Andrew) Bussey, Kevin Dacey, Ryan Dacey, Colleen Rau, Caroline Rau, Matthew Rau, Kaylin McMillan and Shane McMillan, and great-grandchildren Soren Bussey and Brendan Dacey. Don was raised in New York City and Binghamton, NY during his high school years. He attended St. Andrew's and St. Bernard's seminaries and graduated from St. John's University. He was a member of the basketball team where he became a lifelong fan of the Red Storm. He had the pleasure of playing with Al and Dick McGuire and long time friend Lou Carnesecca. Don served as a Lieutenant in the US Army. He began his career with Union Carbide in New York and after marrying Barbara moved to Rochester and soon began his work in the family business, Hadlock's House of Paint. Eighteen years later he became owner and president of the business. After 93 successful years the business continues as a fourth generation corporation operated by Don's son Terry and grandson Sean. In his free time he enjoyed playing cards and golf with his closest friends at Penfield Country Club. Friends may call Monday, April 7, 2014 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM at Jennings, Nulton and Mattle Funeral Home in Penfield NY. On Tuesday, April 8, all are invited to his funeral mass at 10:00 am in St. Joseph's Church in Penfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Smile Train via smiletrain.org.
