Obituary of Ruth M. Post

Ruth M. Post of Fairport died peacefully after a short illness on January 11, 2014. Ruth was predeceased by her best friend and sister, Helen for whom she devotedly cared until her death on September 24, 2013. She also was predeceased by her parents, Kathryn and Arthur of Burlington, VT and her brothers, Arthur Jr. and John. Ruth was born on March 6, 1925. She graduated from the University of Vermont in 1947 with a major in Latin. She enjoyed a lifelong love of reading and literature and was passionate about instilling this love in others as a teacher. Ruth worked for many years in Rochester area schools and was the Chair of the English Department in the Penfield Central School District until her retirement in 1992. After her retirement, Ruth continued to teach adult classes at the Athenaeum in Rochester with a focus on the history of Vermont. She was always eager to learn. She loved to travel and possessed an open and curious mind about the world around her. For 40 happy years, Ruth and her sister Helen spent their summers on Lake Champlain at Kamp Katherine in West Addison where they shared the beauty of the lake and the birds with family and friends and created many happy memories. They were also proud supporters of the Vermont 251 Club, an organization of members with the goal of visiting Vermont’s 251 towns and cities. She will be greatly missed by her family of cousins, who mainly reside in New England. The family would like to express their appreciation to Melanie Eckert and the other caregivers who gave such compassionate care to both Ruth and her sister during their recent illnesses. Ruth’s Memorial Service will be celebrated at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Road, Saturday April 26th at 11 AM. Memorial donations may be directed to Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at RIT, 50 Fairwood Dr., Suite 100, Rochester, NY 14623 in Ruth’s memory.
