Nancy Cummings

Obituary of Nancy W. Cummings

Nancy Jane Wood Cummings, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on November 22, 2023. She was 77 years old.

Nancy is survived by her dedicated and loving husband of 55 years, Gerald Cummings. Their enduring love and commitment to each other were evident to all who knew them, and they were set to celebrate their remarkable milestone on December 21st. Nancy's legacy lives on through her daughters, Amy Hoadley (Phillip) and Marcy Wing (Brian), who cherished her guidance, wisdom, and boundless love.

Her grandchildren, Madison and Max Hoadley, and Claire and Robbie Wing, brought immense joy to Nancy's life. She took great pride in their achievements and reveled in the special moments shared with each of them. Nancy's nurturing spirit extended to her sister, Cindy Hunt (Robert), and nieces, Elizabeth Hunt, Kimberly Hunt-Uzelac (Adam), and their children, McKenna and Kinsey Uzelac. She also leaves behind her brother, Donald Wood (Karen) and their children, Jessica and Nicole as well as her brother in-law, Craig Cummings (Vivienne) and their daughters, Debbie and Kirsten.

Nancy valued friendship deeply, and her life was enriched by the presence of her best friends, Betty Dandrea, Barbie George, and Kathy Dutton. These friendships brought laughter, support, and shared memories that will be cherished by those she leaves behind.

Before retiring to dedicate herself to caring for her grandchildren, Nancy had a fulfilling career at Monroe #1 BOCES as a special education teacher and music librarian. Her passion for advocating for children with special needs was evident in both her professional and personal life. Nancy maintained meaningful connections with her special education students throughout her entire life, a testament to her lasting impact on those she served.

Above all, Nancy held family in the highest regard. She created a warm and loving home where laughter and love echoed through the walls. A devoted fan of Syracuse Orange basketball, Nancy enjoyed cheering for her favorite team with the same enthusiasm she brought to supporting her family. Her love for spending time in the sun at Seneca Lake and her affection for animals, especially her pets, added richness to her life.

Nancy Jane Wood Cummings leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and advocacy. Her memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love that she so freely gave throughout her remarkable life.  In lieu of flowers please donate to Lollypop Farm, Fairport NY/Humane Society of Rochester.  A private family service will be held.
