Obituary of John J. Nolan

John J. Nolan, Jr. Penfield: John J. "Tex" Nolan, Jr. passed away on March 25, 2009. John enjoyed a full life of serving his town, community and country. John will be sadly missed by his family and friends. John grew up in Rochester where he attended Monroe High School, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout as a member of Tay House Troop 19 and worked as a Rochester City Lifeguard. After graduating from Monroe High School, John attended Ithaca College prior to enlisting in the Navy. After serving as an Ensign on an LCT in the Pacific campaign during WW II he returned home and graduated from Hobart College, where he met his wife, Betty Russell Nolan, who predeceased him in 2003. John held many positions within the Rochester business community including the Rochester Chamber of Commerce, the Rochester Home Builders Association and 32 years at Blue Cross and Blue Shield where he retired as Vice President of Consumer Affairs. John was elected to the Penfield Town Board where he served for 10 years before becoming Town Supervisor, a position he held for two terms. In addition, John was very active in the community including, Penfield Little League and serving as President of the Penfield Rotary Club. John is survived by his 3 children, J. Timothy (Andrea) Nolan of Orchard Park, NY, Kathryn (Charles) Kocher of Monument, CO, and Tracy (John) Nolan-Bednarski of Cornelius, NC; grandchildren, J. Michael, Carrie, Matthew and Christopher Nolan, Ryan and Makayla Kocher, Jillian (Carson) Wereley, Peter and Eric Bednarski; sister, Eleanor Litour Crapsey of Rochester; nieces and nephews. John's children would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to John's extended family and great caregivers who nurtured him during the last 6 years of his life; Ruth, Dick and Jim Heidorn, Tatyana Chervonyak and Candy Coward. John's life will be celebrated with calling hours at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Rd., Sunday March 29, 2-6 pm. John's Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 43 Gebhardt Rd. Penfield, NY Monday 10 am. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John's memory to Lifetime Cardiac Unit or Lifetime Hospice, 3111 S. Winton Rd., Rochester 14623.
